2023 Moretti Cabernet Sauvignon, SYV
While Paul Lato might best be known for his Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Rhône wines, he has quietly amassed a collection of Cabernet Sauvignon that is turning heads. Beginning in 2019 he began sourcing Napa Valley fruit from Howell Mountain, To Kalon and other Oakville properties to make both everyday drinking and cellar worthy Cab releases. After that success, in 2023 he began to pull fruit from closer to home at Pink’s Two Wolves Vineyard, this after falling in love with her Sauvignon Blanc which is also a favorite in the room. Today’s 2023 Moretti Cabernet is a blend of that Two Wolves Cabernet alongside Grassini’s blocks of Cabernet, and all coming from the exceptional 2023 vintage that is likely to produce some of the county’s greatest wines in the last decade. Drink now through 2035.
Moretti is dedicated to producing small-lot, well-balanced, food-friendly wines in a European tradition - meant to be paired with food. Our background and wine experience comes from the old world, and we strive to produce similarly styled wines using excellent Santa Barbara County grapes. We are lucky enough to have two of the finest winemakers in our AVA, Paul Lato and Steve Clifton, make our Spring and Fall releases, respectively, providing our customers with the chance to taste 'Cru' productions at 'Village' prices.
